i've had a few conversations with some precious women about how we treat one another. something interesting we've observed is that there are many people who are non-believers who treat each other much better then our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ do. so our question is simply, "why?" why wouldn't we feel compelled to treat our fellow sin warriors with care?
we tend to either be one of two extremes:
1. so "accountable" to one another that we berate ourselves into doubt and self hate
or
2. so "tolerant" that we have shallow, unchallenging relationships
i want to take a closer look at these two extremes. i know that there are plenty of "middle ground" relationships, but for conversations sake - let's talk about this.
in terms of being accountable. what does it mean to be accountable? i'm starting a kairos (greek word meaning "right or opportune moment") study with an acquaintance, and i can't wait to start. we are very different individuals and we are going to get together to read and talk about what it means to live in love with Jesus. i wish to be honest with her and also accountable, but in a "building each other up in love" sort of way. how do we do this without falling into one of the two extremes?
i think it's important to also be educated enough to understand that you can have different opinions about life, love, faith, God, relationships, personalities, likes/dislikes, what it means to be healthy, etc etc etc...and have productive conversations. it's good to challenge one another and view things a little differently or, at the very least, ask yourself some new questions.
ok, think about this and let's talk - this conversation is to be continued...
